Kenneth Stanton Calvert, born June 8, 1953, in Corona, California, has represented the Inland Empire in the U.S. House since 1993, making him one of the longest-serving members of the California delegation. Before entering Congress, Calvert spent 17 years as a small business owner in the restaurant and real estate industries and chaired the Riverside County Republican Party from 1984 to 1988. He ran unsuccessfully for Congress in 1982 before winning his seat in 1992 by just 519 votes over Democrat Mark Takano. Now serving his 17th term in the 119th Congress, Calvert chairs the Defense Appropriations Subcommittee, where he oversees roughly $831 billion in annual defense and intelligence funding. He also serves on the Energy and Water Appropriations Subcommittee and holds the title of Dean of the California Republican Delegation. His legislative priorities center on defense modernization, water infrastructure for California, and supporting military installations across the Inland Empire, including March Air Reserve Base and the Naval Surface Warfare Center in Corona.
