Sanford Bishop has represented Georgia's 2nd Congressional District since 1993, making him the dean of Georgia's congressional delegation and one of the longest-serving members of the House. He serves as the top Democrat on the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Agriculture, Rural Development, FDA, and Related Agencies, directing federal funding for rural communities and military installations across southwest and middle Georgia. Before Congress, Bishop practiced civil rights law in Columbus, Georgia, and served in the Georgia state legislature for 16 years.
