Spiro Agnew
historical
Vice President under Richard Nixon who resigned on October 10, 1973 after pleading no contest to tax evasion — the first use of the Twenty-Fifth Amendment's Section 2 vacancy procedure. Nixon nominated Gerald Ford as his replacement, the first time in American history a vice president was appointed rather than elected. Ford then became president when Nixon resigned in August 1974, making him the only person to serve as both Vice President and President without winning either office in a national election.
