Indiana US Government Standards
Indiana's 2023 Academic Standards for Social Studies include a required US Government course with 28 Essential standards organized into five main topics: Nature of Politics and Government (political theory, ideology, and comparative systems), Foundations of US Government (constitutional history and principles), Purposes, Principles, and Institutions (three branches, federalism, and civil rights), US and World Affairs (foreign policy and international relations), and Roles of Citizens (participation, civic skills, and responsibilities). The course is required for graduation and covers both US and Indiana state government. Indiana does not mandate a statewide USCIS-based civics test; assessment is through locally developed measures aligned to state standards.
