Maryland American Government Standards

Maryland College and Career Ready Social Studies Framework - American Government course standards using C3 Framework organization. Covers 10 topical sections (A-J) including government structure, constitutional origins, three branches, state/local government, civil rights, citizenship, political systems, media, and economic/civic policy. Required for graduation; students must participate in the MCAP Government end-of-course assessment (participation required — passing not required). Beginning with the 2023-24 school year, MCAP Government counts as 20 percent of the student's final course grade (per COMAR 13A.03.02.06.H), starting with students entering Grade 9 in 2023-24 (Class of 2027).
