Republicans boycott historic testimony from Good brothers as Congress confronts police violence crisis

Shooting victim testimony gets no Republican response

Brent and Luke Ganger are Renee Good's brothers. They testified at a Democratic congressional forum on Feb. 4, 2026 about the Jan. 7 shooting in Minneapolis. Brent read from his eulogy calling his sister 'unapologetically hopeful.'

Luke Ganger addressed the complete absence of Republicans: 'The completely surreal scenes taking place on the streets of Minneapolis are beyond explanation. This is not just a bad day or a rough week or isolated incidents. These encounters with federal agents are changing the community and changing many lives, including ours, forever.'

Marimar Martinez testified about being shot seven times by a Border Patrol agent. At the hospital, she saw 'multiple agents standing around watching me be treated for my wounds.' She had seven bullet holes with bandages on her arms, legs and chest.

Rep. Robert GarciaRobert Garcia (D-CA) displayed text messages the agent sent after shooting Martinez. The agent texted: 'Read it. 5 shots, 7 holes. I fired 5 rounds and she had 7 holes. Put that in your book boys. Oh well, it is what it is. Shit happens.'

Aliya Rahman testified about being violently dragged from her car by federal immigration officers in Minneapolis. She described the physical force used during the encounter and the trauma it caused.

Congressional Democrats organized the forum specifically to document use-of-force incidents by ICE and Border Patrol. The hearing record will be used in upcoming negotiations over DHS funding restrictions. The Feb. 13 deadline gives Democrats leverage to demand accountability.

The zero Republican attendance signals the party won't support restrictions on immigration enforcement regardless of testimony. Republicans control committee gavels in both chambers. They can block official committee hearings on ICE conduct.
