On Sept. 9, 2025, Israeli forces struck a residential compound in Doha''s Leqtaifiya district where Hamas political delegates were meeting to discuss a U.S.
ceasefire proposal. The attack killed six people, including five Hamas-affiliated staffers and one member of Qatar''s Internal Security Force.
The White House press secretary, Karoline Leavitt, said: ''Unilaterally bombing inside Qatar, a sovereign nation and close ally of the United States that is working very hard and bravely taking risks with us to broker peace, does not advance Israel or America''s goals.'' The White House said U.S.
military officials informed the administration just before the strike, and President Donald Trump said he was not informed in advance by Israel''s prime minister and ordered envoy Steve Witkoff to notify Qatari officials.
Qatar condemned the strike and said it may reassess its mediation role. Al Udeid Air Base lies roughly 20 miles (about 30 km) southwest of central Doha and has hosted roughly 8,000–10,000 U.S.
personnel at different times.
Date and place: The attack occurred on Sept. 9, 2025, in Doha's Leqtaifiya district.
Casualties: Six people were killed, reported as five Hamas members or staff and one Qatari Internal Security Force officer.
