Escalating drone war threatens broader NATO-Russia conflict

On Sept. 7, 2025 Ukraine's Air Force reported Russia launched about 805 attack and decoy drones plus 13 cruise and ballistic missiles. Ukraine reported shooting down the vast majority of those assets, but confirmed multiple impacts in 37 locations. (Air Force/press reports)

Ukraine's General Staff publicly confirmed strikes on the Ilsky (Ilsk) oil refinery in Krasnodar Krai and on the 8-N pipeline/pumping control station near Naytopovychi on Sept. 7, 2025.

Reuters calculated that attacks through late August 2025 had disrupted about 17% of Russia's refining capacity (≈1.1 million barrels per day); the International Energy Agency and other analysts reported different estimates, so the exact percent offline remains contested.

Reports disagree on the exact civilian death toll from the Sept. 7 assault in Kyiv. Some outlets reported three dead including an infant. Other outlets reported four dead including an infant. Use official local casualty tallies for final numbers.
