DOJ found UCLA violated Title VI and the Fourteenth Amendment on Jul. 29, 2025.
The finding cited "deliberate indifference" to harassment of Jewish and Israeli students from Oct. 7, 2023 onward.
The Trump administration froze up to $584 million in federal research funding to UCLA.
The administration proposed a $1 billion settlement, one of the largest ever from a university.
UCLA separately paid $6.13 million settling a lawsuit from three Jewish students and one professor.
A federal judge ordered restoration of certain NSF grants, finding the suspension arbitrary and capricious.
The settlement would include $172 million for a claims fund for employment discrimination victims.
