Republican hawks attack Trump’s emerging Iran peace deal

Republican lawmakers who had pushed a harder line on Iran publicly attacked President Donald Trump’s emerging proposal to end the Iran war. The criticism focused on reported concessions tied to a 60-day ceasefire, reopening the Strait of Hormuz, sanctions relief, limited oil sales, and nuclear restrictions that critics argued would leave Iran with too much leverage. Ted Cruz warned against sanctions relief or any uranium enrichment pathway. Roger Wicker criticized the reported ceasefire framework. Lindsey Graham, Tom Cotton, Thom Tillis, Mike Pompeo, and John Bolton pressed for tougher terms or warned that the emerging deal could empower Iran. Rand Paul defended diplomacy and urged patience for a peaceful outcome, while Marco Rubio argued Trump would not allow Iran to obtain a nuclear weapon.
