Supreme Court strikes down aggregate contribution limits in McCutcheon

On April 2, 2014, the Supreme Court struck down federal aggregate limits on how much one donor could give to candidates, parties and political committees in a two-year cycle. The ruling left base contribution limits in place but expanded the total amount major donors could give.
