Supreme Court blocks OSHA vaccine-or-test mandate for 84 million workers
The Supreme Court issues two separate rulings on Biden COVID vaccine mandates. In a 6-3 ruling it blocks OSHA's emergency rule requiring employers with 100+ employees to mandate vaccination or weekly testing for approximately 84 million workers, finding OSHA exceeded its authority to regulate a broad "societal" hazard. In a separate 5-4 ruling it upholds a CMS mandate requiring vaccination of staff at healthcare facilities participating in Medicare and Medicaid, covering approximately 17 million healthcare workers. The OSHA mandate ruling halts a major pillar of Biden's COVID vaccination strategy. Biden calls the healthcare worker ruling "a victory" but expresses disappointment on the broader mandate.
