Supreme Court Grants Certiorari in Chatrie v. United States to Rule on Constitutionality of Geofence Warrants

On Jan. 16, 2026, the Supreme Court agreed to hear Chatrie v. United States, a Fourth Amendment case challenging geofence warrants that require Google to disclose location data for all cell phone users near a crime scene. The case, stemming from a Virginia bank robbery investigation, will determine whether mass dragnet surveillance warrants violate constitutional privacy protections. Oral argument was set for April 2026.
