Hamas agrees to dissolve its Gaza government under a U.S.-brokered governance plan

Hamas announced on January 11, 2026 it would dissolve its Gaza administration once a new Palestinian technocratic leadership committee assumed control, as required under a U.S.-brokered peace framework. The plan, announced by Trump on September 29, 2025 and signed October 9, called for a National Committee for the Administration of Gaza led by technocrats and supported by an international Board of Peace. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff announced Phase 2 on January 14.
