Rep. Luna Files Congressional Stock Trading Ban Discharge Petition, Stalls at 74 Signatures

Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) filed a discharge petition to force a House floor vote on banning members of Congress from trading individual stocks. By late December the petition had gathered only 74 signatures — 15 Republicans and 59 Democrats — far short of the 218 required. Progress was stalled by the 43-day government shutdown and fractures in the coalition after Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries filed a competing petition on a separate bill, discouraging members from signing Luna's version.
