Monthly child tax credit payments begin under ARPA

The first monthly advance Child Tax Credit payments — $250 to $300 per child — begin reaching roughly 36 million households under the ARPA expansion. Congress increased the CTC from $2,000 to $3,000 per child ($3,600 for children under 6) and made it fully refundable for the first time. Child poverty fell by roughly 30% while monthly payments were active, from July through December 2021.
