Trump Withdraws US from JCPOA and Reimpose Maximum Pressure Sanctions on Iran

President Trump signed a presidential memorandum on May 8, 2018, withdrawing the United States from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action and ordering reimposition of all nuclear-related sanctions against Iran, including secondary sanctions penalizing non-US companies doing business with Iran. Iran subsequently began exceeding JCPOA enrichment limits after a year-long grace period. The unilateral withdrawal strained relations with European allies who remained in the agreement.
