Rep. Chris Smith blocks Democratic unanimous consent attempt on Iran war powers resolution

Speaker Pro Tempore Chris Smith (R-NJ) presided over a House pro forma session and declined to recognize Rep. Glenn Ivey's unanimous consent request to pass H.Con.Res.40, the war powers resolution directing Trump to withdraw U.S. forces from Iran. Smith gaveled the session closed while Democrats shouted on the floor. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries announced the House would hold a proper vote when members returned from recess on April 14.
