Herbert Clark Hoover Conaway Jr. (born January 30, 1963) is a physician, attorney, and former U.S. Air Force captain serving as the U.S. Representative for New Jersey's 3rd congressional district since January 2025. Conaway made history as the first Black physician with voting privileges to serve in Congress and the first Black congressman from South Jersey. Before entering Congress, he served 27 years in the New Jersey General Assembly representing the 7th legislative district (1998-2025), where he rose to Deputy Speaker and chaired the Health Committee. He also served as Director of the Burlington County Health Department.
